Installing & first launch
"macOS can't verify the developer" — how do I open it?
Because ReddishGreen Dock is distributed directly (not via the App Store), the first launch may be blocked. Right-click (or Control-click) the app in your Applications folder, choose Open, then confirm. You only need to do this once.
Which permissions does it need, and why?
- Accessibility — to read window information and switch, minimise, close or quit windows from previews.
- Screen Recording — to render live window previews and capture region screenshots.
Grant these in System Settings → Privacy & Security. ReddishGreen Dock only uses them to power the features above.
How do I update?
Updates install automatically in-app via Sparkle. You can also check manually from the app menu, or download the latest build from the download page.
Why do I need to verify my email?
We email a single-use download link so we know the address is reachable. When the app asks you to sign in, enter that same address and then the six-digit code we send. This lets us keep your free or future paid access attached to one account without collecting a password.
My download link or sign-in code did not arrive
Allow a few minutes and check your spam or junk folder. Links and codes expire after 10 minutes. Return to the download page or app and request a new one; repeated requests are intentionally limited for security. If delivery still fails, contact support.
Is ReddishGreen Dock free?
It is free during early access. The goal is to learn whether people install it, reach a useful moment, keep using it, and value the features. It may become a paid product later, with advance notice sent to early-access users.
How do I uninstall it?
Quit ReddishGreen Dock, then drag it from your Applications folder to the Bin. Clipboard history and preferences are stored locally and are removed with the app.
Using the app
Is ReddishGreen Dock an Alt-Tab for Mac?
Yes. It includes a fast, visual window switcher that works like a Windows-style Alt-Tab on the Mac, alongside an enhanced Cmd-Tab. You get an Alt-Tab grid of open windows with search, arrow keys and Vim-style motions to jump straight to the window you want.
Can it replace or improve Cmd-Tab on macOS?
Yes. The switcher enhances macOS Cmd-Tab so you can cycle individual windows (not just apps), see live previews, and pick a window by clicking, searching or using the keyboard.
Previews don't appear when I hover the Dock
Confirm that Accessibility and Screen Recording are enabled in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then quit and reopen the app. A logout/login can help macOS apply newly-granted permissions.
Where is my clipboard history stored?
On your Mac, locally. It holds your most recent 100 copies and is never uploaded anywhere. See the privacy page for details.
Does the app collect usage data?
Only if you explicitly enable Share Anonymous Usage Data. It records activation, retention, permission completion, and daily use of major features with a random installation identifier. It never includes window titles, app names, clipboard contents, screenshots, colours, or file names. You can turn it off—and request deletion of those anonymous events—from Support settings.
Can I change the colours?
Yes — open preferences and adjust the colour palette to match your setup. ReddishGreen branding is the default.
What are the App Launcher and Chrome profile features?
The App Launcher opens an iPhone-style grid of your installed apps from the menu bar — type to search, then launch with Return. Chrome profiles show each Chrome window's profile avatar and name in previews and the switcher, and can group windows by profile. Toggle both in preferences.
How do the colour picker and screenshots work?
Trigger them with their hotkeys (set in preferences). The colour picker samples any pixel and copies it as HEX, RGB, HSL, HSB or SwiftUI; region screenshots drag-select to the clipboard or open in Preview to annotate.
